Using Hushwork
The Builder and its blocks
The Builder is where you change a workflow: add blocks, fill in the blanks, put the steps in order and press Save.
How to get here
Every way of starting ends in the same Builder:
- A plan from the Workspace: press Open in the Builder.
- A template: press Open in the Builder on a template card.
- A skill: pick one from the Skills list on the left.
- A saved workflow: click its name on the Workflows page.
- Or press New in the Builder on the Workflows page to start empty.
The screen
At the top is Name your workflow. On the left are the Blocks. On the right is Your workflow, the list of steps. A workflow can have up to 12 steps.
Add, edit, move, delete
- Add a step: drag a block into your workflow, or just press it. Pressing adds it at the end, which also works on phones and with a keyboard.
- Edit a step: fill in the blanks on the step. Each blank has a hint.
- Move a step: use the up and down arrows on the step, or drag it by the grip on its left.
- Delete a step: press the bin icon on the step.
- Save: press Save (or Save changes for a saved workflow). Unsaved changes are lost if you leave the page.
Careful: Do not put passwords or card numbers in a step.
The blocks, in one line each
| Block | What it does |
|---|---|
| Start | Says how the workflow begins: When I ask, On a schedule, or Keep watching. |
| Linear | Looks at your open Linear tasks. |
| Web address | Asks one website for information (read only). |
| Ask the AI | Gives the AI a job. It can look at one place first, then write. It only reads. |
| MCP server | Lets the AI use the read-only tools of one tool server. |
| Ask me first | A stop sign that marks where writing starts. |
| Add a row | Adds one line to a Google Sheet you name. |
| Create Linear task | Adds one new task in Linear. |
| Another app | Looks at something in an app connected through Composio. Read only. |
| Do in another app | Really sends an email or Slack message, creates an issue or a page, and more. |
| Note | Your own words. It does nothing when run. |
Older plans may also hold three "plan only" blocks (Find something, Write something, Send a message). They only describe things and do nothing, so the Builder no longer offers them. See Step types for every kind in detail.
Skills and emailing several people
The Skills list on the left adds a ready-made step. Each shows a note like "Reads only", "AI writes text" or "Writes: needs Approve". A skill that writes brings an Ask me first step with it. The note "Needs..." means an app is not connected yet.
Email several people makes one separate email step for each address you type, up to 8, so you approve each email on its own.
Step cards
Under each step is a small card. Why says why the step is there. Evidence says Planned until the step has run. If a step needs an app you have not connected, the card says so and offers Connect, which opens in a new tab so your work is not lost.
Plan-only warning
If a step would run but do nothing, Hushwork warns you when you save. To really send or create something, use Do in another app.
Try it
- Open the Builder and name it "Test".
